Botox is definitely the most popular treatment received in our Philadelphia office, and it is a brand name that almost everyone has heard of. However, aside from the “forehead”, are you aware of all the different places on the face, neck, and body that Botox can benefit?

Below are the Top 10 Most Popular Botox injection sites. (How many of these have you tried?)

One caveat: As with any aesthetic treatment, results are only as good as the hands and brain injecting you. Please make sure to only receive treatment with experienced and well-qualified providers. On average, Botox treatments last around 3-months however this varies between people and some may get longer or shorter lasting results.

1. Around the Eyes

(This area is often referred to as “Crow’s Feet”.)

Crow’s feet can be one of the first signs of aging, and this area is usually one of the first areas that clients want to treat. These dynamic wrinkles form from repeated movements; such as squinting and smiling. Lines and wrinkles around the eyes usually start to appear in your 20s because the skin around the eyes is so thin and delicate.

For crow’s feet Botox treatment in Philadelphia, you may need 5 to 15 units of Botox per side. On average, results should last between three and four months.

2. Forehead

When the average person thinks about Botox, they most often associate it with the forehead. Horizontal lines across your forehead come from smiling, frowning, and many other expressions, but Botox injections can significantly erase these lines.

In this area, most people need 10 to 30 units of Botox, and results usually last around three months.

3. Between the Eyebrows

The area between the eyebrows is called the glabella, and the lines that form here are known as glabellar lines or 11’s (because they can resemble the number). These lines can make you look tired or angry, making this an extremely popular Botox treatment area.

You will need 10 to 25 units for glabellar lines, with results usually lasting three months.

4. Upper Eyebrow

Another of the most common places to get Botox on face wrinkles is the upper eyebrow. When you get Botox injections there, the results can mimic those of a mini eyebrow lift because it can counteract the muscles that cause your upper eyelids to droop.

You may need two to five units on each side of the upper eyebrow, and on average results last around three months.

5. “Bunny Lines”

Another hot wrinkle-area we commonly treat are the lines on either side of your nose that appear when you scrunch yp your face, commonly referred to as “bunny lines’ and technically known as nasalis lines. (In some cases, these lines can extend all the way to the lower eyelid.)

Most people need between 5 and 10 units per side to treat bunny lines, and results often last around three months.

6. Dimpled Chin

If you have a dimpled chin, these marks can worsen as you age because the muscles in the area can become more active. Blessedly, Botox can smooth out the area.

You may need between 2 and 6 units of Botox for a dimpled chin. Injections for this site are one of the longest-lasting options, with many people enjoying results for up to five months.

7. Smile Lines

Botox injections can also help with the smile-lines that form around your mouth. These lines can extend downwards toward the jaw, giving you a droopy look and even making you appear sad or angry when at rest. Injections at the site can help to lift up the corners of your mouth, and help you look refreshed and happier.

Most people need between 3 and 6 units on each side for smile lines, and you can smile about these results for about 3-months.

8. Neck

If you have abysmal platysmal bands that stick out of your neck, Botox injections can greatly help. (To check yourself for this, look in the mirror and clench your jaw. You may be surprised at what you see pops-out.) For neck lines, each “band” may require 10-units to quiet down. The results usually last around 3-months.

9. Gummy Smile

If you show a lot of your gums when you smile, carefully placed Botox treatments can prevent your upper lip from raising beyond your teeth.

To resolve this issue, you may need between two and four units and results can around three months.

10. Lip Flip

A Botox lip flip can be done on its own or with fillers. It allows you to get the look of a fuller upper lip by rolling the pink part of your lip outward. (This can also help the fine lines above your lip to disappear.)

You may need about 4-units for a Botox lip flip, depending on whether you use fillers too or just Botox the results can last anywhere from two to five months.

At About Face Aesthetics, we use filler to treat a number of issues, including fine lines, wrinkles, loss of facial volume, and more. However, you may not think of the skin around your eyes as a place that filler can offer solutions.

Here, we’ll talk about how aging can affect your eyes and how you can improve your appearance with under eye filler. Philadelphia is a location that offers great benefits such as historical sites, amazing restaurants, AND high-quality med spa treatments will leave you feeling rejuvenated and looking beautiful.

Common Eye Concerns

Common aesthetic eye concerns can include wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles, and deep grooves. The skin around the eyes is the most delicate and reactive on the face, and there are many reasons why the eyes might not look the way you would like. These are the most common causes:

Genetics

Your body naturally produces collagen and elastin—two proteins responsible for repairing and strengthening your skin’s cellular structure. However, your genetics determine how much of these proteins your body makes. Your genetics also predetermines how deep-set your eyes might be, or how prone you may be to allergies, eye hollowing, darkness, puffiness, etc.

Lifestyle Choices

Lifestyle choices like your sleep schedule, diet, exercise regimen, and smoking and drinking habits can all affect your skin, especially manifesting in the skin around your eyes. Poor lifestyle choices can cause and exacerbate dark circles, wrinkles, eye bags, and fine lines around your eyes.

Poor Skincare

Poor at-home skincare can also impact the appearance of the skin around your eyes. If your skincare routine isn’t optimized for your personal skin type, then the products you use can make skin conditions worse and cause premature signs of aging.

Aging

Our skin naturally starts lowering our production of collagen and elastin as we age. Typically, we begin to produce less and less collagen starting in our mid-20’s, and then lose about 1% of collagen production every year beginning around the age of 40.

How Fillers Can Help

Most dermal-fillers are created using hyaluronic acid, which is a substance your body naturally produces. It provides essential support for your skin’s ability to retain moisture, making your skin healthy, smooth, and flexible.

By injecting filler into specific areas of your face, our providers can help restore lost volume while also increasing your body’s natural collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production. This not only delivers instant results, but gives your body everything it needs to maintain those results for a long time.

The additional collagen and elastin your body makes will repair any damage done to the cellular structure of your skin, and then strengthen that structure to maintain your skin’s smooth, healthy appearance.

We understand that you may be hesitant to have a needle anywhere close to your eyes. But our injectors have undergone extensive training for injections like under eye filler in Philadelphia. They understand exactly what areas of your face to target so they can address your specific needs.

But, dermal-filler injections under the eyes is not a helpful treatment for everyone, even though it’s such a common concern. Your provider will assess you and make the best recommendations, but the decision about whether or not under-eye filler will be helpful for you will be largely dependent on your anatomy.

Wrinkles

Fillers can target wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes, filling in hollow spaces and loose skin to create a more youthful and rested complexion. Once it’s in your skin, the hyaluronic acid then also increases collagen and elastin production to maintain your results and keep your bright appearance. (Neurotoxin injections like Botox can also help with this. Your provider will let you know!)

Dark Circles

Dark circles appear when the skin underneath your eyes becomes thin, making the blood vessels underneath more visible. Filler can increase the volume in the skin under your eyes, creating more space between the surface of your skin and the darker blood vessels. As a result, any dark circles you get are less frequent and less prominent. (Treatments like EZGel can also dramatically improve this concern, your provider will let you know when they see you.)

Deep Grooves

Under-eye hollows and deep grooves can also be improved with under eye filler in Philadelphia. Filler not only adds volume to create a more energetic appearance, but can also improve your skin texture and color by increasing collagen and elastin production. (This is another common under-eye concern that treatments like EZGel can dramatically improve, however your provider will be the best source of recommendations when they see you.)

How to Avoid Under Eye Wrinkles

We can provide under eye filler in Philadelphia to reverse wrinkles and other eye concerns, but how do you prevent undereye wrinkles from forming? You can take some steps in your daily life to slow down the progression of under eye wrinkles.

Maintain Good Skin Care

Having the proper skincare regimen can help your skin retain moisture. Everyone’s skin is different, so make sure you’re using the right products to help you fight off the signs of aging. At About Face, our team can examine your skin and help you determine your skin type to match the best products for your specific concerns.

Avoid Alcohol & Tobacco

Alcohol and tobacco products dehydrate your body, and dehydration causes your skin to show premature signs of aging. Limiting the amount of alcohol and tobacco products you consume will help maintain moisture within your skin.

Exercise Regularly

Exercise helps every aspect of your health—including your skin! Exercising increases circulation and blood flow to the skin. This delivers more oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells, keeping them healthy and ensuring you can enjoy smoother, younger-looking skin for years to come.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is also vital for maintaining healthy skin. Our food is our main source of nutrients, and the only way to get the right nutrients is to eat the right foods. To maintain healthy skin, you need to limit overly processed, modified, sugary foods and focus on eating the best balance of vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy that you can.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Did you know that getting less sleep means you’re hurting your skin’s ability to heal and regenerate itself? After about 6 days of sleep deprivation, our skin begins to rapidly lose elasticity, creating wrinkles and sagging skin that age your appearance.

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is key to maintaining healthy, youthful skin. Your body needs water to operate at its best, and a healthy body encourages healthy skin. When your skin has everything it needs, including the proper amount of hydration, it will make the effects of any treatments or products you use that much better.

(A quick hydration-trick: you should drink half your weight, in ounces. So for the sake of easy math, someone who weighs 140-pounds should drink 70-ounces of water a day.)

The Importance of Skincare

Getting under eye filler in Philadelphia will help with your aesthetics concerns for your undereyes, but skincare may be just as important for maintaining your results. Think of skincare like caring for your teeth—you go to the dentist every 6 months for a checkup and a deep cleaning, then you brush and floss every day to maintain your teeth and gum health.

When caring for your skin, the same logic applies. You might visit an aesthetician occasionally for an assessment and treatments, but you need to maintain your skin’s health everyday by using the appropriate skincare.

At About Face Aesthetics, we offer ColoreScience, SkinBetter, Plated by Rion, SkinMedica, Latisse, Upneeq, Alastin and private-label products to help enhance and maintain your skin and aesthetic goals. During your consultation, your provider can talk with you specifically about skincare and help you determine the right products for your skin type and concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand if you have a lot of questions about getting under eye filler in Philadelphia. Here are the most common questions we receive about filler—along with our answers.

What is the difference between filler and Botox?

Fillers and Botox are both injectables that treat wrinkles, but they do so differently. Fillers treat static wrinkles, or wrinkles that are caused by skin laxity. They do this with hyaluronic-acid based gel that you can inject under the skin. This gel replaces volume loss, and lifts sagging skin to create a smoother, younger-looking complexion.

Botox treats dynamic wrinkles, which are wrinkles that are caused by repeated muscle movements creating indents in the skin over time. During Botox treatment, a provider injects a small and refined dose of the neurotoxin Botulinum A into the small muscles in your face that cause dynamic wrinkles.

The neurotoxin temporarily pauses muscle movement to stop and reverse those wrinkles without taking away your ability to make your natural facial expressions.

How long do dermal-fillers last?

The longevity of your filler depends on what type of filler you receive, but many of our patients find that their fillers will last anywhere between 6 and 12 months. Creating an at-home routine with medical-grade skincare products will help make your results last longer.

Are dermal-fillers painful?

No, dermal-fillers are not painful. You may feel a slight pinch when your injector inserts the needle into the treatment site, but otherwise you should be relatively comfortable when you get under eye filler in Philadelphia.

(Most dermal-fillers are premixed with a little bit of lidocaine to add comfortability, and our Philadelphia dermal-filler injectors have a lot of tricks up their sleeves to make the treatment process as easy on you as possible.)

Am I a good candidate for fillers?

Not everyone is a good candidate for under eye filler. Philadelphia has a lot of med spas offering filler, but your About Face provider will discuss your medical history, assess your current anatomy and concerns, review your desired goals, timeline, and budget, and perform all due diligence to make sure that under eye filler is the best option for you. Your provider might recommend other under eye treatment options for treatment if you have certain situations / conditions like:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a bleeding disorder
  • Have an infection or illness
  • Have certain skin diseases
  • Have open sores or active acne
  • Have a history of cold sores

Do you offer options for fillers?

Yes, there are different brands of fillers, each specifically designed to target a unique concern. You and your provider can discuss your options during your consultation, and they can help you determine which of our offered fillers would work best for you.

Congratulations! Your search for “wrinkle treatments near me” has brought you here. We know you may be shopping around, but while you’re here, how about a quick tour of some of your options at About Face Aesthetics?

Here They Are, Those “Wrinkle Treatments Near Me”

Injectables

First off, we have an assortment of injectables for smoothing out those lines. Botox and Dysport are some of our most popular wrinkle treatments, and they work best for treating dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles caused by facial movements and expressions). Instead of treating wrinkles at the skin level, these treatments, known as neuromodulators, work by relaxing the muscles under the wrinkles. And they aren’t only for fully developed wrinkles; they can also be used preventatively.

Fillers are a first line of defense against volume loss, but they can also be used to treat deeper wrinkles. Some wrinkles and skin folds are caused or worsened by a loss of volume or a decrease in skin elasticity. Dermal fillers can help smooth your skin by filling in the “hollow” areas beneath the wrinkles and by stimulating collagen production. At your go-to medical spa in Center City, we offer several different fillers, including:

Lasers

Laser resurfacing can be extremely effective for anti-aging and overall skin rejuvenation. We use laser systems including Fraxel, CoolPeel, CO2 Deka, and Clear + Brilliant Touch to remove the dead and damaged skin hanging out on the surface and to stimulate your body to produce new collagen and new skin cells.

Chemical Peels

Our medical-grade chemical peels are another great option for achieving smoother, brighter, and younger-looking skin. The degree of friction-free exfoliation depends on the type and depth of the chemical peel being applied. Chemical peels are typically divided by depth: light, medium, and deep. The greater the depth, the more dramatic the results and the more downtime needed after treatment.

RF Microneedling

For fine lines and mild wrinkles, RF microneedling can be just the thing for tightening up wrinkled skin, especially around your eyes and mouth.

At About Face Aesthetics, we use the Morpheus8 and Vivace devices to restructure skin tissue and turbocharge collagen and elastin production. RF microneedling can be paired with exosome therapy for even greater skin rejuvenation.

Now that You’ve Found “Wrinkle Treatments Near Me,” Are You Ready to Get Started?

If you’re looking for an average, run-of-the-mill med spa, we can make some recommendations, but that’s about it. At About Face Aesthetics, we’re all about providing a personalized, one-of-a-kind experience.

When the best care meets the most effective and advanced aesthetic technology, you know you’re in for a transformative treat. You deserve nothing less than the best and shouldn’t have to settle for anything but the latest and greatest.

Exceeding your expectations is always our goal. No matter your age, gender, skin tone, and body type, we want you to be happy with your results, and most importantly, we want you to be happy with yourself.

Give us a call or send us a message if you’re ready to book your consultation or if you’d like to know more about those “wrinkle treatments near me.” We’d love to hear from you!

If you’re not quite ready to come in for a consultation at our Center City location, you can use our Virtual Consult tool to get instant treatment recommendations based on your needs and goals.

Botox has become a popular cosmetic treatment for reducing wrinkles and fine lines on the face. It is a non-invasive procedure that involves injecting a purified form of botulinum toxin into the muscles of the face. The toxin works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles, which causes them to relax and smooth out wrinkles.

If you’re considering getting Botox, one of the questions you may have is how often you should get botox injections. Here, we’ll explore the answer to that question and provide some additional information about Botox treatments.

What is Botox?

Botox is a brand name for a type of botulinum toxin that is used in cosmetic treatments. It was originally developed as a medical treatment for muscle spasms but has since been approved by the FDA for cosmetic use.

When injected into the muscles of the face, Botox blocks nerve signals that cause those muscles to contract. This results in smoother skin and fewer wrinkles. Since its use as a cosmetic treatment, Botox has quickly gained notoriety as a very safe and effective way to rejuvenate skin.

How Long Should I Wait Between Botox Treatments?

The effects of Botox typically last between three to four months. Therefore, it’s recommended that you wait at least three months between treatments.

When trying to figure out how often you can get Botox, some people may discover they are able to go longer than four months between treatments if they have less severe wrinkles or if their body metabolizes the toxin slowly. However, waiting longer than six months between treatments can result in decreased effectiveness and require additional Botox to achieve similar results.

It’s important to note that everyone’s body reacts differently to Botox, so it’s best to consult with a professional before deciding on a treatment schedule. They’ll be able to find the perfect Botox schedule and regimen for you, leading to the best results for you.

Benefits of Botox Treatments

Aside from reducing wrinkles and fine lines, there are several other benefits of getting regular Botox treatments:

Prevents new wrinkles from forming: By relaxing facial muscles, Botox can prevent new wrinkles from forming.
Reduces excessive sweating: Botox can be used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in areas such as the underarms or palms.
Relieves migraines: Some studies have shown that regular injections of Botox can reduce the frequency and severity of migraines.

EVERY SINGLE TIME I INJECT YOU, I write down your “recipe” of exactly where each drop of Botox or Dysport was placed in your face.

This ensures that whether you are seeing only me every three months, or every three years —  or if due to your schedule you need to see whoever has the soonest availability — these thorough, consistent treatment notes will always provide the perfect at-a-glance reference of your previous treatment.

Before I inject you, I’ll always check your recipe, and then review how things went from your last treatment:
* What did you like?

* Was there anything we could improve upon?

Based on your answers, we can tweak anything as needed. Some common “recipe” tweaks can be as follows:

Did your results not last as long as you’d like?

No problem, this time lets try adding some more units.

Did you like your results, but your super-smooth forehead made you more aware of another untouched area [crow’s feet, bunny lines, etc.]

No problem, I can see you’ve never treated that area before, let’s add that to the plan this time.

Your last visit was good, but you’re feeling like you look extra tired these days?

Lets add a few more units to give you a little brow-lift.

Your face-recipe is super-helpful in providing you the best continuity of care, and I love to go back through long-time patients’ “recipes” to see how their treatment plans have evolved over the years. Even though pen and paper notes seem almost old-fashioned, I love this tried and true record system.

For what it’s worth; if you’re an injection virgin, or new to our office, we obviously would not have a pre-existing face-sheet for you to reference. This is not a problem, and a custom treatment will be developed for you at the time of time of your visit. But like with any treatment, the more information and insight we have into you, your aesthetics, and your anatomy — the better.

1. You didn’t get enough product.
Honestly, this is probably the biggest culprit of all, and usually has to do with budget constraints. A lot of people prefer to stick within a certain budget-range for their treatment (which is completely understandable), but the dollar-amount they have in mind may not correlate appropriately to their needed dosage. In the event that you cannot afford to fully treat all of your desired areas, it is better to appropriately treat one area then try to stretch the same amount of product for three areas. Quantity equals longevity, and the smaller the dose — the quicker it will dissipate.
2. You have a high metabolism.
Some people metabolize injections very quickly, and no matter what — their metabolisms don’t allow for the usual result-longevity. (These are usually people who are exercise A LOT.)
3. You may have developed a resistance to the product / you are in the small minority of non-responders.
If you have been getting large doses of tox* for a long time, it is possible (although rare!) to build-up a resistance to the product. There is also a small subset of people who just don’t respond to the product at all. Unfortunately, this means that no matter how much product is used — your muscles will not respond as desired.
4. You want to retain some movement with your treatment.
If you are one of those people that likes a more “natural” look with some remaining movement, you will need more frequent maintenance. Smaller quantities of product are used in these scenarios to allow the muscles to still have some movement, and the smaller the dose — the quicker it will wear off.

Please know that it is NORMAL for some movement to gradually return 2-months after your treatment. By the 3-month mark, you will likely have full return of muscle contractions.
* In our office, we use the catch-all term “tox” to refer to all of the neuromodulators; Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, etc.

Botox injections for “jelly rolls” consist of quick, tiny injections to help smooth the skin around your eyes.

When you smile, the muscles around your eyes contract, and over time this can cause wrinkles and creases to appear. Years and years of blinking, squinting, and other unavoidable reflexes may lead to crow’s feet and also “jelly rolls” underneath the eyes.

Officially, these lines are known as orbicularis and can be noticeably minimized with BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport. These products temporarily paralyze the muscles, forcing them to stay relaxed. The result? Fine lines disappear or appear smaller and less deep.

Great care is used to achieve a natural balance between smoothing the jelly roll lines, while retaining the ability to make natural facial expressions. People seldom want a face that appears “frozen” and expressionless (but if you do, you do you boo!). The goal is to minimize the lines, while allowing you to remain expressive. As long as you choose a qualified provider in Philadelphia, PA, the BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can be done quickly with natural-looking results. Maximum effect can usually be accomplished with one treatment.

For deeper / harder to treat wrinkles, some patients may achieve theie best results when BOTOX® Cosmetic is applied in conjunction with a filler, such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane®. Of course, this depends on many factors, such as bone structure, muscle tone, skin texture and elasticity. This will be determined and reviewed with you at your consultation.

The location of the lines can also play a part in the final result. Lines located toward the outer (lateral) side of the lower eyelid tend to respond to treatment better than lines located toward the middle of the eyelid.

Because the skin around the eye area is very delicate, it is vital that you receive the BOTOX® Cosmetic injections from a provider who is very familiar with the anatomy and function of the muscles surrounding the eyes. The injectors at About Face Skin Care have performed thousands of successful treatments, and your face will be in excellent hands.

One of the wonderful things about BOTOX®Cosmetic is its temporary nature; you can always elect to start with a small dose and add more injections later to gain the desired effect. Conversely, if you don’t want to keep up with the treatments, the BOTOX® Cosmetic will gradually wear off.

Call 215-923-5001 to learn more about getting rid of those Jelly Rolls.

In case this craze has somehow slipped past you unnoticed, let us please inform you: lip enhancement is one of the MOST popular aesthetic treatments being sought after these days. Every age, every gender, every nationality. People are flocking to their nearest injection providers for a prettier pout.

These treatments are most commonly performed with dermal-fillers such as Juvéderm, Volbella, Vollure, and Restylane. However as the demand for this treatments increases — injection providers are discovering new ways to utilize the available products at hand, and various ways to try and differentiate themselves from everyone else. Enter Botox (and Dysport) into the arena.

When used in a particular way, Botox / Dysport can also slightly shape up the lips to create a “poutier look.”

“When used alone, or in combination with fillers, a few units of Botox injected at the lip line helps give a subtle plumping effect by flipping out the lip line, which contributes to the overall appearance of a fuller, sexier lip,” shares injector Lauren Adamski at About Face Skin Care in Philadelphia.

Please keep in mind though, dermal-filler and Botox / Dysport are not the same, and do not bring the same results.

Filler adds volume, which makes the lip appear larger by literally making it bigger. Botox / Dysport relaxes muscles around the mouth (the “orbicularis oris) and rolls the lip outward (i.e. “flipping” it), creating the illusion of a bigger lip — without adding any volume.

For the Botox Lip Flip, Botox is strategically injected into sections of the orbicularis oris to target “only the superficial layers of the muscle at the side of the upper and lower lip to relax the muscle fibers enough to flip the lip outward without affecting the function of the muscle,” says master-injector Nicole Ciasullo, also from Philadelphia’s About Face Skin Care.

If the procedure, which takes less than a minute to administer, sounds complicated, that’s because it is — and should only be done by board-certified professionals.

It is important to see an experienced provider for this treatment because there can be some unforeseen complications with this. “The tricky thing is that if you use too much product, your mouth will not move properly,” Ciasullo says. “Your lips would look really smooth, but your mouth wouldn’t move. Like, if your dosage is too high for this treatment, you may not be able to use a drinking-straw for a few months.”

To avoid the whole not-being-able-to-move-your-pretty-mouth situation, Ciasullo recommends very modest, controlled amounts of product.

The Botox Lip Flip requires about 10 units (or less) of Botox (a very small amount when compared to fillers), and due to the tiny doses — results of this treatment usually last about two to four months. Prices will vary based on your provider and location, but generally fall within $130 to $250 per session.

Virgin Botox patients always ask the same question before treatment, expecting a simple reply to a seemingly simple question: How many units of Botox will I need?

From a simplicity stand-point, it is unfortunate that there is no “one-size-fits-all” answer we can give. The amount of Botox an individual will need is dependent on multiple issues, and will always vary from person to person. However, from a consumer stand-point, this is one of the things that makes Botox treatments so wonderful — every treatment is completely customized per unique patient.

Depending on how many different areas of the face a patient is interested in treating, the amount of Botox required can vary drastically. This, coupled with the following characteristics, will help determine exactly how many units of Botox you need in order to achieve the end-result you want.

Differing Aesthetic Goals: Some people prefer a completely “frozen” result, while others like to maintain movement in a minimized capacity. (For example, most women choose to have their foreheads completely motionless, while many men prefer to allow for slight movement.)

Different Muscle Strengths: Someone with stronger forehead muscles requires more Botox to quiet the muscle movements than a person with weaker forehead muscles.

Pre-Existing Situations: The more prevalent and deep-set a patient’s current wrinkles are, the more product will be required to erase them.

Different face shapes and sizes: For example, a person with a larger forehead will require more units of Botox to halt motion than a person with a smaller forehead.

Metabolism: The length of time Botox results last are dependent on how quickly each patient metabolizes the product. The faster a person’s metabolism, the more frequently patients will require treatment.

To help make some sense out of how much Botox is required per facial area, this picture is often helpful.

For a Botox / Dysport estimate specific to you, it will be most helpful to have an in-person consultation.

Once an experienced injector is able to evaluate your face and your desired results, they should be able to give you an approximate idea of what your perfect treatment amount should be.

When it comes to getting rid of wrinkles, the first thing that comes to mind —and often go to—is Botox.

1. Reduce Sweaty Armpits

One of the original uses for Botox was to treat overactive sweat-glands. Medically known as hyperhidrosis, overly sweaty underarms is a condition that affects millions of people and can be hugely embarrassing for social-interactions. According to Philadelphia injector Nicole Ciasullo, this FDA-approved treatment is one of the most life-changing. “People are ecstatic to wear any kind of clothing they like, anytime of year, and never have to worry about embarassing sweat-stains.” Botox /Dysport injections in the underarms target the sweat-producing glands, preventing them from contracting and expressing sweat. Results usually last for around 6-months.

2. Alleviate Migraines

Years ago, doctors noticed that when they injected their patients with Botox for cosmetic purposes — there was also a decrease in the frequency / severity of headaches that migraine-sufferers experienced.  Studies show that using Botox around the head and neck, in addition to between the temples, forehead, and hairline, can help relax the muscles that tense up during painful headaches and migraines. Nurse-injector Lauren Adamski says that while the exact mechanism of action isn’t known, it’s believed that Botox inhibits sensory pathways that modulate pain in migraines. “It may also reduce muscle contractions that act as a migraine trigger.”

3. Eliminate a Gummy Smile

If you show more gum than tooth when you smile, a few units of Botox/Dysport may be able to help. This off-label use can help your smile show more teeth, and less gums. “It works by temporarily freezing the muscles that lift the upper lip when smiling, this then prevents the upper-lip from retracting and exposing a significant amount of the gums when smiling,” explains Ciasullo. However, make sure to choose your provider with care — if the injections aren’t done just right or if too much product is used, your smile can become uneven, distorted, and even effect your speech.

4. Stop a Twitching Eye

Before Botox became known for its ability to smooth out wrinkles, one of it’s origianl uses was to correct eye-twitches. “It was originally developed and used to treat muscle-twitching around the eyes. This uncomfortable condition was greatly alleviated by the injection of neurotoxin into the hyperactive muscle,” says  Ciasullo. “The effects typically last for three to six months.”

5. Alleviate Depression

“When it comes to using Botox to treat depression, it’s kind of similar to how it effects migraines,” explains Adamski. “Expression is tied to emotion as much as emotion is tied to expression. The action of making a facial-motion can create emotion, too,” she says. In studies, patients with depression who were treated with Botox either got better or went into remission, it is thought that the inability to frown helps prevent the patient from feeling upset or unhappy.

6. Control an Overactive Bladder

Best administered by a urologist, Botox can be injected into the wall of the bladder to help control bladder issues and halt the feeling to constantly “go”, which is connected to overstimulated bladder muscles. “To inject in this area, a small scope is passed through the urethra into the bladder and then a needle is passed through the scope. Several injections are made into the bladder,” says Ciasullo.

7. Relieve Jaw-Tightness From TMJ

Constant grinding of your teeth and clenching of your jaw can actually swell the muscles that live at the edge of the jaw and in the scalp. “Aside from feeling uncomfortable and tight — as these muscles grow and get stronger, they can cause the face to appear off balance,” says Adamski. “Injecting those muscles with Botox can soften the angles of the face and release any tension, too.”

8. Diminish Voice Disorders

When the vocal-cords spasm they can cause disorders with speech. Lasting anywhere from two to four months, Botox injections can help with these involuntary muscle spasms in the vocal cords. Best performed by providers that specialize in this area, “Botox is injected directly into the vocal-cord muscles in order to relax these muscles so that the involuntary movements are weakened or eliminated completely. As in other areas, treatment to this area is temporary and usually lasts 2-4 months.” says Ciasullo.

9. Control Oily Skin

According to some experts, micro-Botox treatments can be used to help decrease the production of sebum (the substance that makes skin look oily) on the face. “Subdermal injections of Botox can help to temporarily treat oily skin and reduce the size of the pores.” says Ciasullo.
